Skamania Day 2 - The one day tour

So on Friday, our second full day staying at Skamania Lodge, my Grandma Barbie and her friend Bob came and picked us up and gave us the grand tour of the gorge.  And guess what?  They have a mini-van!  So we all got to ride together and it was actually quite nice.  My Grandma has only seen Colton one time and it has been way too long since she has seen the other boys, so we were REALLY happy to get to spend some time with her.  So, first stop . . . Multnomah Falls.
Yes, we hiked up to that bridge and the picture really doesn't do it justice.  It was cool.

Next on the tour: The Fish Hatchery.  The boys loved this, of course, and I thought it was cool.  They had all kinds of salmon and sturgeon and trout.  They had one sturgeon that was over 10ft long.  No kidding.  If I could get my video camera hooked up I could show you, but you'll just have to trust me.  It was amazing.  The boys loved feeding the trout and watching them jump and dive all over each other.  That was crazy.

They also had an information center where we watched a little video and learned all about it.  At certain time of the year, you can actually watch them harvesting the eggs.  Ewww.  We thought this bear was cool.

This is Cody's bear face:
And this is Colton's "I'm so scared of the bear" face:

It was a cool place.  Just perfect for a dad and three little boys who love fish!

Then it was off to lunch.  We found a cute little restaurant and it served cafeteria style!  Perfect, because little boys do not like to wait for their food.

Then we headed back over to check out Bonneville Dam and the fish ladders.  That was really cool too. (Alot of "cool" things today, I know, but what else do I say, it was!)  Most people think the ladders are only for salmon, but there are TONS of different types of fish that go through there and they have this person that sits by a window 24 hrs a day and counts all of the fish including the species.  Crazy, huh!?

Then off for ice cream!  This is a real treat, because my kids rarely, if ever, get ice cream actually in the cone.  They were yummy, but it's a good thing we got the small size!

Back at the hotel, we said goodbye (or see you later when we get to Portland).  And I'm not sure what we did after that, but I'm pretty sure we probably went swimming before bed.

Thanks Grandma Barbie and Bob for an awesome day!
